Palakkad, 09th March 2024 – The Shalom Institute of Mental Health & Research (SIMHAR) organized an important awareness class on alcohol and drug abuse, facilitated by the Excise Department of Palakkad. The event took place at SIMHAR and aimed to educate both inmates and students from nearby schools about the dangers of substance abuse.
The session highlighted the Excise Department's Vimukthi Bus initiative, designed to raise awareness and provide resources for those struggling with addiction. The event was inaugurated by Mrs. Renukadevi, President of Parali Gram Panchayat, who emphasized the significance of community involvement in addressing substance abuse challenges.
Giju Varghese, COO of SIMHAR, presided over the event, while V. Robert, the Excise Deputy Commissioner, served as the chief guest. In his address, he stressed the necessity for ongoing awareness and prevention efforts to combat the increasing concerns of drug abuse in society.
Ramesh, the Preventive Officer, contributed to the discussion by sharing insights into strategies being employed to combat addiction and promote healthier lifestyles.
The seminar also featured remarks from Senior Chaplain Jayson Joy M.J., Administrator Venugopal, Clinical Coordinator Blessymol P Davis, and Pro M. Manikandan, all of whom passionately discussed the critical role of education and community support in preventing substance abuse. The participation of inmates alongside students enriched the discussions, fostering a deeper understanding of the issue across different demographics.
