On 24th May 2024, the Shalom Institute of Mental Health & Research (SIMHAR) observed World Schizophrenia Daywith a seminar that brought together professionals, experts, and over 300 students from various colleges to discuss schizophrenia, its challenges, and advancements in mental health care. The event was marked by special honors presented to two distinguished individuals in the field of psychiatry for their invaluable contributions.
Dr. Sneha Leya Thomas, Managing Trustee and CEO of SIMHAR, had the privilege of honoring Advocate Japala Menon and Dr. Ramanan Earath, a leading psychiatrist, for their outstanding service and dedication to the field of mental health. Their commitment has helped shape better awareness and treatment approaches for mental health disorders, particularly schizophrenia.
The seminar also featured key speakers, including Dr. Sarath Sundar, Clinical Psychologist from Government District Hospital, Palakkad, and Dr. Shaji K.S., Associate Professor from Thrissur Government Medical College, who led enlightening sessions on schizophrenia care and management. Attendees were engaged in ice-breaking sessions, fostering interaction and a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
With the participation of over 300 students, the event successfully raised awareness and shared evidence-based practices for schizophrenia management.
